Pre-concert Lecture: Music in Times of War and Peace

This lecture is a collaboration with Berwick Educational Association (BEA) who run classes and talks on a wide variety of subjects. We are fortunate to have Dr Richard Moore of BEA giving a lecture on the musical, historical and cultural background to the Handel and Haydn works before the Berwick Arts Choir's live concert the following evening. George Frideric Handel - Te Deum and Jubilate for the Peace of Utrecht

This work was written to recognise the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713 which ended the war of the Spanish succession.

Joseph Haydn - Mass in Time of War

Also known as the Paukenmesse this work was composed in 1796.

With Berwick Arts Orchestra and soloists from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, soprano Catrin Woodruff, mezzo Joanna Harries, tenor Liam Bonthorne and baritone Arthur Bruce.

The concert starts at 7pm.
